Thank you for your support in electing me as Ypres 3 CAV second elected President and thank
you to the incoming executive for agreeing to fill the positions you have.  I have a great example
to follow in Kaiser who will now lead the entire 3 CAV Formation with a steady hand into the
future.
It is my intention to not only maintain what Klaus has done but to continue to advance the unit in
our efforts to support and assist all Veterans and current serving members as well as
perpetuating the memory of those who have paid the cost of freedom with suffering and
ultimately their lives.  Those who have served in the past and who wear the uniform today are
indeed our family, as we have experienced many of the trials and tribulations that they have
faced or are facing today.  Noting this I say that “charity starts at home” and feel that the unit’s
focus should be on assisting the Veteran and Military communities as we have for the past two
years.
With this said let us also look inward to Ypres.  I have been with this unit when it struggled; I have
seen it evolve into what it has become today.  From that time until this, one factor remained that
guaranteed the unit’s success and that factor was comradeship.  The bond that created great
friendships while we served exists today in Ypres, and as in whatever unit or vessel you served
with while in the Forces relied on that comradeship to succeed in its missions, so too does Ypres
rely on it for the success of its endeavors.  Through supporting one another we make each other
stronger and Ypres becomes stronger in the process.
This unit is what it is because of the contributions of its membership, and any and all
contributions are important and matter.  This encompasses all members, from the executive who
put in many extra hours, to the rider who can only make an occasional ride.  Contributing is as
easy as wearing the vest displaying the Crest, proudly showing who we are whether with the unit
or alone.  The more contributions by the members, the stronger and better the unit.
Regardless of what challenges Ypres takes on in the future one constant will remain and that is
we will have fun while pursuing them.  I look forward to my term as President and am honoured to

accept the task that you have bestowed upon me.

“Strength and Honour”
